Erlbaum Institute for Israel Initiatives
Jewish schools are faced with the challenge of teaching Israel in a time when the state is an established fact and emotional response is decreased. This malaise affects all segments of the population touched by Jewish education: parents, students, and teachers. The Erlbaum Institute for Israel Initiatives hopes to foster Israel Studies in Jewish schools in the Greater Philadelphia area. Its mission is the following:
- creating a comprehensive city-wide approach to Israel in the community through schools, synagogues, and communal organizations
- creating a caring attitude about the people and land of Israel
- establishing the feeling of k’lal Yisrael
- demonstrating to American students that Israel is more than the sum of her parts, with respect to history, industry, religious and secular life, geography and politics
- developing a scope and sequence of study through the grades which has a trip to Israel as its goal
