Participating as a member of the Board of Directors of the Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education gives one the opportunity to be involved in cutting-edge initiatives in many areas, including, among others, synagogue school education, early childhood education, special education, family education, Israel, and "Menschlichkeit." Our staff works hand in hand with the Board to provide a synergy in strategic planning, advocacy and evaluation. Through our Board and committee meetings, Board members have the opportunity to learn about and deal with the most significant issues facing Jewish education, including the recruitment, training and retention of qualified teachers, educational directors and informal educators. A strong Board is key to the success of our Agency.
In order to have maximum effect, Board members are expected to participate actively in the work of the Board including attendance at our regularly scheduled board meetings. Service on at least one committee of the Board is also a requirement of board membership. Before each board or committee meeting, you will receive materials that will enable you to prepare yourself to participate fully at the meeting.
If a Board member find that he/she cannot attend a board or committee meeting, we ask that he/she call ACAJE at (215) 635-8940, extension 1210, to inform the office of his/her inability to attend. Board members are expected to attend more than half of the meetings during the year.
Board membership also carries with it financial responsibilities. These include the payment of an annual board contribution, payment toward board expenses, participation in Agency special campaigns and events, and annual "capability" contributions to Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and United Way.
It is our hope that Board Members will actively identify and if possible solicit donors to support Auerbach CAJE’s services and functions. During his/her term in office, we hope that the Board member become an advocate for the Agency in his/her synagogue and community. Within his/her own time constraints, we would hope that he/she would find time to act as Auerbach CAJE’s liaison to his/her synagogue board and school committee.
